NA 64 Sargodha-I / NA-64 Pakistan

NA 64 is a constituency for the seat of Pakistan’s National Assembly from Sargodha. Sargodha is one of the largest districts of Punjab Province. Its importance lies in fact that Sargodha District elects five members of Pakistan’s National Assembly. NA-64 to NA-68 are the five constituencies of Sargodha for Majlis-e-Shora of Pakistan. NA 64 is also known as NA-64 Sargodha-I and it is the first of total 5 seats of Sargodha. Main areas of this constituency lie near River Jhelum.

In 1988 General Elections, Ehsan ul Haq Piracha of PPP won the seat. In  1990 General Elections, Ehsan ul Haq Piracha again won the seat but this time on PDA ticket. In 1993 General Elections, Ghulam Hussain Cheema of PML-N won the seat. In 1997 General Elections, Adnan Hayat Khan of PML-N won the seat. In all these above mentioned elections the constituency was named as NA-47 and from 2002 is it renamed as NA-64.

In 2002 General Elections, Inam ul Haq Piracha of PPP won the seat. In 2005 bye-election, Haroon Ehsan Piracha of PML-Q won the seat. In 2008 General Elections, Nadeem Afzal Chan of PPP won the seat. In 2013 General Elections, Pir Aminul Hasnat Shah of PML-N won the seat and defeated Nadeem Afzal Chan of PPP with huge margin. Overall the constituency is divided by PML-N and PPP voters and dominated by Piracha clan.
