The numbers of lawyers in Pakistan are increasing with rapid pace but quality of their services and competency as a whole is also decreasing with same speed in Pakistan. In past Pakistan produced many able and competent lawyers and jurist who proved themselves at international stage. But today the situation is deplorable. What is the main reason behind this? There is only one reason for this phenomenon and that is the phenomenal increase of private law colleges in Pakistan.
Today there are hundreds of private law colleges operating in Pakistan which are producing thousands of law graduates every year. Most of these colleges are only exist in papers without any proper building, faculty and class rooms. There is only one criterion for entrance in such colleges and that is FEE.
In Pakistan the merit of Doctors and engineers are very high and only few very competent and able students are admitted in medical and engineering institutions. But what is the criterion for the Lawyers? There is no merit because you can easily get admission in Private Law College with C or D grade marks in graduation. All you have to do is to give them fees and there is no need to take classes of law, at the end of every year you can sit in the annual exams and easily pass it by just preparing few important questions. Even some colleges offer you guess papers and guarantee you the success in exams for little more money. You can become a law graduate in Pakistan very easily without even attending class in college.
Majority of people try to get admission in different courses of Universities after their graduation but when they fail to get admission anywhere they took admission in Private Law College. Most of them start some job or business and during those three years of LLB they even not bother to come to their college. Some of them even don’t know the name of their college and they got admission through their friends who pay their fees and inform them when to sit in the annual exam.
After completion of LLB the entry test is conducted by Punjab Bar council or other provincial Bar Council before granting license of advocacy to law a graduate. But this test is big joke as 99 % of applicants always pass in that test. Now after that a person is ready to start his career as advocate. Is it possible for such person to become competent advocate or jurist?
In western countries the Lawyers are the most respected, highly educated, highly paid persons, in nutshell they are the real cream of society. Now after reading above mentioned conditions and procedures you can easily conclude that why profession of law is in such dismal condition here in Pakistan.
Such policy is not only harmful for general public but also for lawyer’s community in the country because this rapid growth in numbers of lawyers in country seriously damages their earning capacities.
Government should adopt serious measures against these private law colleges. All such colleges should be abolished and only respectable public sector universities are given permissions to conduct law graduations with limited numbers of seats. Only few private colleges with high standard of education are given limited numbers of seats for law graduation. All Provincial Bar Councils must conduct the entry test for the license of Advocate in its true spirit and license should only be given to those able candidates who are fully committed with their profession. Only by implementing these suggestion situation can be improved in the legal system of Pakistan. It will not only beneficial for lawyers but also helpful for the general public who can get good services from competent and professional lawyers.
Hence law colleges of Pakistan are in very bad shape. Government of Pakistan need to improve the condition of law education in Pakistan and improve the Law colleges of Pakistan. Problems of law colleges in Pakistan are huge and also causing inconvenience for advocates in Pakistan.

I would appreciate to this person, who had made this comments about law education in pakistan. As a being advocate my thinking is that goverment is reponsile to take action against those colleges and universities which couldn’t lead to law student about law and just make a formalties and issue the law degries.According my concept this is big educational corruption in pakistan. I also request to the minister of law department to take action aginst those colleges who couldnt issue law degree on merrits.

AOA,
I am Arsalan Mustafa and also a Lawyer of High Courts. This problem is not only with private law colleges but with government universities and private colleges of other cadres also,,problem is that in Government universities most the law students are terrors of the teritory or disturbing other people’s peace , y ? In private colleges some splendid lawyers have also come out apart from those people which u described, Even in private business schools whats happening there, 80% of the business students become jobless for years and finally compensate theirselves with low-earning and low-prestige jobs bcz the employers first of all ask from which college or university u have completed ur study …. All these concerns do not require 1 click solution, it requires the proper guidlines and strict accountability for private colleges which nobody does, and apart from that the license shud b issued on competency not on discretion or favourism, but still then after becoming an advocate u come to know that cases are not decided honestly as element of biasness & incompetency on behalf of judges seem present.
So this is the one of the issue u r pointing out, hell of issues are around it which need to be sorted out first.
Thanks

Aslam-u-Alaikum to all giving their comments here.
I would like to request that there is not the same case every where or in every private law college. I also would like to request to all the person that we should “first deserve then desire”. But unfortunately I have to say that English grammar of all the friends, claiming for the poorness of the standard of private law colleges; is also so poor.Your comments are being viewed in the whole of the world. What message are you giving to the world? Oh yes! “ha” “ha” “your are right” where, the standard of English of the critics will be “so high”, there the standard of private law colleges will surely be so poor”.
